Phil Dunlop

A friend recently described my pictures as serene.

I guess you could say that about my work.

Because I remove the unnecessary, the elements that trouble me in an image.

Everything has to work in harmony.

Even if the colours are electric, clashing, brash, I’ll find a way to make them beautiful and work together.

I take inspiration from everywhere.

Architecture, furniture, cinema, the culinary arts...

I photograph mediums that explore form and space.

I’m forever curious, observant of the energy in a scene or the subtext of a moment.

And that’s what I’m drawn to capture.

In fashion photography, I use movement to create an energy which often helps me discover the best silhouettes.

But when I’m capturing a portrait, I look for stillness.

Somewhere I think character can be found in the moments of quiet around the conversation.

The serenity my friend felt whilst looking at my photographs wasn’t an accident. I work tirelessly to find it.

I’m Phil, I live in London but work worldwide.
